Tour de Marel answers SOS call

09 Sep 2013

Tour de Marel is an annual global charity event taking place for the second time in September 2013. Marel employees around the globe will unite to raise money for SOS Children's Villages in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast.

SOS Children's Villages
With over 145 million children in the world who have lost one or both parents and are exposed to countless dangers, SOS Children's Villages plays a vital role in providing children with a safe and loving family home. The organization supports families in their care for children and gives orphaned and abandoned children a new home in one of their children's villages.

Impact of Marel's support
Tour de Marel raised over €50,000 in 2012. The money raised by Tour de Marel 2013 will be used to provide a better future for children in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, where a new SOS Children's Village is being built. Part of this SOS Children's Village is the construction of a quality primary school.

Learning is one of Marel's core values. Marel regards continuous education as a way of preparing the company for the future as well as a way of unfolding the talent of individual employees. Marel is pleased to be able to support education further afield in the global community where even the most basic educational needs of children are often not being met.

The new primary school in Yamoussoukro will provide quality education for 210 children aged 6 to 16 years and will open its doors in 2014. The school's curriculum will offer a good foundation in primary education for the children in the SOS Children's Village as well as in the broader community in Yamoussoukro.

Tour de Marel – the event
Marel employees in more than 40 locations around the globe will unite in this event to support SOS Children's Villages, competing in sports and taking part in other activities with family and friends in September.

The charity drive kicked off 28 August with the launch of the Tour de Marel promotion site. The site serves as a registration page and information source where people can sign up to support members of their local Marel team and contribute to a worthy cause.

Theo Hoen, CEO of Marel:

"Marel employees have been involved in fundraising for charities for many years, but 'Tour de Marel' is designed to bring everyone together across many locations at the same time. United, we can raise enough money to make a significant contribution to the lives of those in need,"

Activities will take place in each Marel location, on or around Marel premises. For more information and to support SOS Children's Villages in Ivory Coast, visit our Tour de Marel website:
