Bakkafrost chooses Marel

Marel is pleased to announce that its long-term partner, Bakkafrost, has chosen Marel to be a major supplier in an exciting new project in the Faroe Islands. Marel will supply Bakkafrost with the latest technology for the primary processing section of their state-of-the-art Harvest/Packaging/VAP salmon factory at Glyvrar, which will open in 2016.

The new factory will be equipped with the latest technology to improve efficiency while fulfilling today’s high requirements for hygienic design, food safety, and gentle product handling, and is expected to set new standards within the salmon industry.

The Marel system to be delivered is a highly sophisticated Grading and Distribution System for Whole Salmon.It includes the gutting and box packing area as well as an intelligent distribution system to all processes following the gutting process. In this project, Marel will draw on its extensive experience from many other successful installations to provide Bakkafrost with solutions that will help give them the edge over their competitors.

At the contract signing, Bakkafrost CEO Regin Jacobsen emphasized how pleased he is to have Marel on board as a leading supplier in this important project.
