26 Sep 2014
At a ceremony last night, Marel was presented with the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition’s Overall Outstanding Supplier award, as well as the Outstanding Icelandic Supplier – Processing award. Sigurdur Olason, Managing Director Fish Industry Center, Marel, accepted the awards on behalf of the company.
It was a busy start to IceFish earlier in the day, where visitors to Marel’s stand were especially keen to learn more about the next generation of whitefish processing lines with the FleXicut water-jet cutter.
Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, president of Iceland, who opened the exhibition, Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, and Ármann Kr. Ólafsson Mayor of Kopavogur visited the stand. Sigurdur Olason explained what the FleXicut fuss is all about, and why it won this year’s Nor-Fishing Foundation Innovation Prize.
Visitors were introduced to Progress Point during happy hour at Marel’s stand at the end of day one. Progress Point is the company’s new demonstration and training center in Copenhagen, where Marel showcases its products, stages events, and holds meetings and training workshops.
At the ‘Fish Waste for Profit’ conference held in conjunction with the exhibition, Gudbjorg Gudmundsdottir, Project Manager for Innovation of Industry Centre Fish at Marel, addressed ‘Technological Advancement Towards Sustainability’. Her presentation emphasized the way Marel works with the food processing industry to lead the way in processing technology.
There is a record number of exhibitors at IceFish this year, reflecting the importance of the event for the regional fishing industry, and Marel staff look forward to being kept busy at the stand until the event closes on Saturday.
