In a 24-hour period, Marel employees in Iceland and their friends and families ran or cycled the distance from Iceland to the Ivory Coast in support of SOS Children’s Villages in the country.
There are 6,500 kilometers between Iceland and the Ivory Coast and during the 24-hour Tour de Marel, participants ran or cycled a total of 6,578 kilometers.
Tour de Marel is a fundraising initiative in which over 30 Marel locations participated. Team members ran, cycled, walked and took part in a variety of different activities all designed to raise money for SOS Children’s Villages.
Donations will be accepted on tourdemarel.com until 30 September. The company will match all donations. To date, EUR 33,000 has been raised.
Donations from this year’s Tour de Marel are being used to build a library in the town of Yamoussoukro in Ivory Coast, which now has over 300 students.
This is the third time that Marel employees have collected money for SOS Children’s Villages. Over the past two years they have collected EUR 150,000, which has been used to build a school for 210 orphans aged 6 to 16.
