A great turnout for Meat ShowHow 2018
The focus this year was on showing processors how they can add value and diversity to their product lines with Marel’s full range of flexible and scalable systems together with our Innova Food Processing Software.
Progress Point was filled with an array of our secondary and further processing equipment including; deboning, trimming, and inspection systems as well as sausage production and a new volumetric portioning system.
The event opened with an introduction from David Wilson, the Managing Director of Marel Meat. His talk highlighted the rapid and exciting transformations in the protein business with a focus on the processors’ role from “Live Animal Receipt to Finished Packs.”
MAREL’S NEWEST SOLUTIONS
Meat ShowHow guests were the first to see our newest offerings. The new VoluCut 200 and VoluCut 160 were presented for the first time in our schnitzel and steak packing lines. The VoluCuts have been developed to meet the increasing consumer demand for pre-packaged, fixed weight and fixed count, ready-to-eat cuts of meat.
The Volucut 200 and VoluCut 160 demonstrated how meat slices can be perfectly cut in equal shape, size, and weight with uniform spacing and orientation – perfect for further processing such as breading, battering, or marination.
Our intra-logistics expert was on hand to show our Robot Palletizer in action. The Robot Palletizer integrates with our processing lines and Innova Food Processing Software for a complete solution for storage and distribution.
The demonstrations were not confined to the Progress Point demo hall, with guests being invited to walk through a 'virtual reality' processing facility for a unique 360° video tour of the latest generation slaughter robotization: the M-Line. This new immersive demo experience was a big hit at the event.
INNOVA FOOD PROCESSING SOFTWARE
Our Innova Food Processing Software is helping producers around the world gain powerful insights into their production in order to optimize their performance. Our Innova experts were available to show how the meat industry is being revolutionized by advances in high tech software that has the capacity to analyze many data points in real-time and help producers gain a competitive edge. Innova software is a powerful tool and our software experts demonstrated how this data can be used to gain full production control, manage yield, throughput, efficiency, quality, and inventory levels with full traceability.
There were two keynote speakers who covered a range of topics critical to the meat industry and its future.
Justin Sherrard, Global Strategist Animal Protein, from Rabobank presented the “Global Meat Industry Outlook” with a focus on beef and pork. Mr. Sherrard highlighted the opportunities present in the protein business for managing growth in production to match growing demands with discussion on competition in export markets. Mr. Sherrard also addressed the risks of industry disruption in relation to biosecurity, technological advances, and the consumer environment.
Dr. Rod Polkinghorne, the Meat Standards Australia (MSA) pathways coordinator and adjunct professor at the University of New England, spoke on the value that can be realized throughout the supply chain by combining accurate yields and eating quality data, to transparently relay value from the farm to the end consumer. Dr. Polkinghorne also detailed meat eating quality grading and its future global status.
The Meat ShowHow 2018 was a great success and a wonderful networking occasion to make some new acquaintances and connect with old friends.
