Trim Inspection System
- Supplier monitoring
- Improved margins
- Product consistency
- Consumer safety
- Superior product quality
Overview
The Trim Inspection System (TIS) is designed for further processors and grinding facilities buying meat trim based on a specific CL value.
The system calculates the precise chemical lean ration (CL) of beef and pork trim. Additionally, it detects and automatically rejects bones and other hazardous contaminants in the product (bones, metal, stone and glass ≥ 5 mm)
Formerly Incoming Meat Inspection system (IMI).
Features
- X-ray technology for bone detection and accurate CL measurements
- Advanced automatic reject mechanism for effective bone removal
- Auger infeed system for increased throughput and bone detection performance
- Analysis of fat/lean ratio
- Continuous real-time data collection
Specifications
+/- 1% point from the CL level
(smallest dimension)
99% of bones ≥ 5 mm
Innova Food Processing Software
Innova, Marel’s food processing software, gives meat processors the most effective control of their Trim Inspection System. The software provides historical and real-time performance data and detailed production reporting.
Control: Innova keeps track of each batch of meat and generates customized reports. This provides processors with valuable information about the raw products.
Monitor: Innova is a management tool to monitor system operations in real-time as well as collect historical data on CL ratio (fat/lean ratio), bone-rate and rate of other contaminants (glass, metal and stone). Innova provides the production manager with live views for monitoring actual performance on the x-ray machine.
Improve: By monitoring performance of key performance indicators such as CL ratio, throughput and bone detection. Innova makes it possible for production managers to analyze the resulting data in order to optimize their process and achieve the best value possible.
System Description
By means of x-ray (SensorX) the Trim Inspection System analyses incoming trim for density variations and calculates the precise chemical lean ratio (CL) of beef or pork trim. These variations enable the SensorX to detect the presence of bones and other hazardous contaminants in the product. The contaminants are removed from the product stream by means of an advanced reject mechanism subsequent to scanning.
Control of the incoming raw material and knowledge of the precise CL increases the quality of the whole value chain. It also enables processors to increase profits by adding fat when CL in incoming product is too high or reduce costs with claims or returns when CL is too low.
Supplier monitoring
The Marel TIS offers great reporting capabilities and a variety of different reports can be generated. Quality of the raw material can be compared over time and between suppliers. With trim prices based on lean content, it is valuable to be able to monitor whether the incoming meat meets product specification.
Improved margins
Knowing the correct fat/lean ration of incoming meat can be used to improve the profit margin. When the incoming meat is leaner than specified, the extra value of the meat can be utilized by mixing it with fatter, less expensive meat. Alternatively, if the incoming meat is fatter than specified, action can be taken to reclaim that value from suppliers.
Product consistency
Consistency is one of the foundations of product quality and customer loyalty. By removing foreign objects and providing accurate information about the CL of the raw material coming in, the Marel TIS provides the necessary tools to be able to deliver a final product that is consistently up to the right standard.
Customer safety
Marel’s SensorX (x-ray unit) has revolutionized bone detection and rejection in the food processing industry. Foreign bodies such as bone, glass and metal 5 mm and over are detected and automatically removed.
Superior product quality
With the Trim Inspection System, processors can be sure that they constantly have the right raw material available for their production. Having the right raw material is the foundation of being able to produce the best-quality final product.
