Really clean carcasses and no damage

Higher line speeds and an ever more demanding market needs make it increasingly important that automatic evisceration equipment can be relied upon to produce a consistently clean carcass with no lungs, hearts or other debris still remaining.

Plants have traditionally installed vacuum-assisted inspection machines to clean up after an automatic evisceration operation. This did not always remove all debris and possibly damaged the ribs and carcasses. This could be a problem, particularly for some fast food operators or operators for whom MDM is important.

Marel Stork Poultry Processing is now happy to announce a big new step forward in final inspection, its FIM-20 RotoVac RS Final Inspection Machine. The FIM-20 RotoVac RS is a twenty unit machine capable of handling up to 13,500 broilers per hour (225 bpm). It also features a proven design which gives each carcass more space, allowing heavier weights to be handled.

The new machine has been designed to set the new standard for carcass cleanliness. This has been achieved by developing an all-new unit. The unit consists of an infeed bracket behind which are twin suction nozzles, one for each side of the carcass. The nozzles remove any attached lungs from the ribcage.
 

No carcass or rib damage

Efficient debris removal is one side of the coin; avoiding damage to carcass and ribs the other. This is done by rotating each nozzle on either side of the carcass. Good positioning of the carcass ensures that units always enter the cavity correctly.
 

Optimum vacuum at lower cost

Another important aspect, which was taken into account, was providing vacuum to the machine’s units efficiently and cost-effectively. The new FIM-20 RotoVac RS uses blowers instead of vacuum pumps. They are better at generating the vacuum necessary for optimum performance, easier to maintain and cheaper to run.
 

Hygiene and safety

It is obviously essential that the new FIM-20 RotoVac RS can be cleaned thoroughly both inside and outside. After production a water line can be connected to flush through the suction nozzles and all vacuum piping in the machine, a special valve ensuring that water cannot get into the vacuum system itself.
 

More on the Rs-family

In common with other Stork Poultry Processing newest RS-family evisceration equipment, the FIM-20 RotoVac RS is free-standing and comes complete with lockable hinged doors and a collecting bin with a central drain. Utility pipe work is integrated into the machine’s frame. To ease installation and maintenance all utility connections are at the machine’s central column.

For cleaning the outside of the machine, a pneumatic mechanism as with all RS type machines, allows it to be disengaged from the overhead conveyor and lowered to a convenient height. Once disengaged and lowered, the machine can be turned manually. Importantly, disengagement does not affect the technological setting of the machine.

Once cleaning is done, the machine is re-engaged and production can re-start without any further adjustment.

With many plants now working two or more shifts, time for cleaning is obviously at a premium. The FIM20 RotoVac RS has an open design with no blind spots and all horizontal surfaces are sloped to allow water to run off.
