Join Marel at China Fisheries in Qingdao in November to find out about the latest technology in advanced equipment and integrated systems for processing salmon, whitefish, and other seafood.

Demonstrations at Marel’s China Fisheries booth this year include pre-slicing whole sides of smoked salmon fillets into fixed-weight slices, high-value fixed-weight, fixed-length portioning, and flexible weighing and packing onboard fishing vessels and factory trawlers.

Marel’s virtual reality experience will also offer visitors a unique insight into the cutting-edge fish processing technology that helps increase yield, throughput, quality, and productivity.

The salmon era in China

This is an exciting time for salmon in China, with foreign salmon suppliers strengthening their presence in the Chinese market, and more and more Chinese salmon companies emerging. Marel is at the forefront of helping salmon processors grasp the opportunities and meet the challenges that this era brings.

Salmon industry development forum

Earlier this year, Marel was the chief sponsor of the first Salmon Industry Development Forum, held in conjunction with the 2018 World Seafood Shanghai Exhibition, 29 August 2018. This event marks the first official gathering of the world’s salmon industry in China.

Christian Bols – Business Manager, Marel Salmon – made a presentation at the event on future trends in the global salmon processing industry. The estimated growth for salmon in China is 12% per year, or about three times higher than the global annual growth.

The Chinese salmon industry dates back to 1985 when the first salmon entered China from Norway. By 2009, the total consumption of Chinese salmon was around 29,000 tons; a figure that had tripled by 2017 and is estimated to reach 240,000 tons in 2025.

If attendance rates at the forum are anything to go by, there is very keen interest in the salmon industry in China, making this year’s China Fisheries and Seafood Expo even more exciting.
