On 4 November 2021, Marel had the honor of receiving the Brazilian ambassador to Norway and Iceland, Enio Cordeiro as well as Kristin Hjalmtysdottir, director of the Icelandic Red Cross at its headquarters in Iceland. With a strong presence in Brazil, Marel welcomes the opportunity to strengthen ties with the Brazilian ambassador and discuss topics of shared importance including automation of the Brazilian food industry and export of quality food from Brazil. The gathering was also an opportunity for Linda Jonsdóttir, Chief Financial Officer of Marel, to formally donate EUR 250,000 raised by employees during the Move the Globe company-wide initiative to the International Red Cross in support of refugees in northern Brazil fleeing regional conflict.

Enio Cordeiro, the newly appointed Brazilian ambassador to Norway and Iceland was met by Anna Kristin Palsdottir, Executive Vice President Innovation, Gudbjorg Heida Gudmundsdottir, Executive Vice President Fish and Thorsteinn Kari Jonsson Director of Sustainability and Community Relations at Marel’s headquarters for a fruitful discussion and a tour of Marel’s innovation cluster and manufacturing facility.
Marel has a significant presence in Brazil with a large facility in Guaporé that includes sales, service and manufacturing operations and a recently opened state-of-the-art facility in Campinas that combines offices for various departments as well as a demo-center to host customers for in-person as well as virtual experiences of high-tech Marel food processing solutions and software.
The meeting was an opportunity to discuss topics of shared importance such as exciting opportunities in the tilapia industry in Brazil as well as automation of the Brazilian food industry.
Marel hands over EUR 250,000 to the International Red Cross
The visit marked the perfect occasion for Linda Jonsdottir, CFO of Marel, to formally sign over EUR 250,000 donation to the International Red Cross raised by Marel employees during a company-wide initiative, Move the Globe. Not only did the challenge support healthier bodies and minds, it will also contribute to the wellbeing of others with funds raised for urgent support to migrants in northern Brazil. More specifically, the funds will be used by the International Red Cross in Brazil to secure safe water and essential services for migrants in northern Brazil fleeing armed violence and instability in the region.
