Only people who meet the qualification 'having rendered a lifetime of outstanding service to the poultry industry' are eligible to enter the Poultry Hall of Fame. Every three years a selected group of 4 or 5 persons is inducted. Their portraits, and those of previous honorees, are displayed in the Poultry Hall of Fame in the US Department of Agriculture’s National Library at Beltsville, Maryland.
Besides Shai Barbut, the three other inductees in the Class of 2016 are Glenn W. Froning, Andrew R. Rhorer and Yvonne Vizzier Thaxton. All four of them were inaugurated at a ceremony during the IPPE on January 27th.
Dr. Shai Barbut
Shai Barbut was born in Israel and is a Canadian citizen. He has been a professor in the Department of Animal & Poultry Science at the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada since 1985.
Dr. Barbut has published extensively in the area of poultry meat products. In his lecture at Marel Stork's Poultry ShowHow he elaborated on his most recent book entitled 'The Science of Meat and Poultry Processing'. This e-book is downloadable here. It details the most up-to-date and accurate research on key topics in the meat processing industry, such as automation, food safety, microbiology and product evaluation.
Shai Barbut is a fellow in the Institute of Food Technology and has won numerous honors and awards as well as providing leadership on many government committees.
