MareDeus boosts performance with a Marel Service Agreement

MareDeus Food Solutions entered a Service Agreement with Marel in 2016, elevating their partnership with a more proactive approach to maintenance. Since the Service Agreement was implemented, MareDeus says that their uptime, efficiency and product quality have all improved considerably.

A busy fish processor needs reliable performance

MareDeus is a Portuguese cod processing company with locations in Portugal, Spain and Norway. It sources the freshest Atlantic cod from Norway and processes it at its headquarters in Portugal, where it produces quality products for the Mercadona supermarket chain, which has 1,636 stores across Spain and Portugal.

MareDeus has been working in partnership with Marel since 2013, when MareDeus purchased a StripCutter. The fish processor has since gone on to transform their factory with a range of Marel equipment, with installations including two SensorX systems, a FleXicut, two TargetBatchers, two Multihead Weighers and four MCheck 2 Checkweighers.

Producing over 5,000 tons of product annually and with busy times ahead, the company needs their production to be exceptionally reliable and efficient.

Proactive maintenance increases uptime

MareDeus Vice President Jorge Ubago says that while Marel has always provided service as needed, MareDeus recognized the widespread benefits of a more proactive approach. In particular, the company wanted to optimize its technical support, preventative maintenance and access to essential spare parts. With these goals in mind, a tailored Service Agreement was the next logical step in MareDeus’s partnership with Marel.

Explaining the advantages of the agreement, Ubago says that “the maintenance becomes more proactive and reduces the downtime effect.” With Marel’s preventative maintenance, equipment is kept running at maximum efficiency, and potential issues are predicted and  addressed before they can disrupt the flow of production. Thus, the investment in proactive services is quickly returned in terms of increased uptime and better yields.

Ubago also highlights the importance of Marel’s customer support center, noting “the phone service is very useful in solving many problems.” With dedicated specialists serving the company’s locations in Portugal, Spain and Norway, Marel is always on hand to offer expert technical guidance.
