Connecting to the African market at Propak
As always the Propak exhibition was well visited, with a good spread of visitors, mainly South-African, but also from other African countries.
Although the target and the variety of visitors of the Propak exhibition were extremely wide, from beverage processors to automotive manufacturers, Marel could welcome many seriously interested poultry professionals at its stand.
Poultry processors from around Johannesburg showed great interest in Marel Poultry's primary and secondary processing solutions. Also the End-Of-Line systems, concerning packing and labeling, gained a lot of attention among visitors who were into meat preparation.
The most remarkable group of visitors for Marel Poultry at Propak turned out to be the African poultry importers, originating from South Africa, but also from Mozambique, Congo, Zambia or even Ethiopia. They buy their products in Brazil, Europe or America, and want to perform a secondary processing operation, such as resizing, repacking and rebranding. The originally imported IQF products come in a variety of 5 or 10 kilos and need to be prepared for the African catering market. That's why the poultry importers were particularly looking for portion cutters to resize imported fillets as well as checkweighing, packing, labeling and dispatch machinery.
