Marel Team Takes on Alpe d’Huez
05 Jun 2013
The Alpe d'HuZes event was created with the aim to empower people to convert the sense of powerlessness, caused by cancer, into one of strength. Alpe d'HuZes wants to raise funds to fight cancer by cycling up the Alpe d'Huez six times in one day. The name, Alpe d'HuZes, is a combination of the Dutch word for "six" (zes) and the name of the mountain. The dream of all those involved is for cancer to evolve from a deadly disease into a chronic illness. Everyone who has taken part in the Alpe d’HuZes events knows how it feels to give the best you can for others.
Fund raising for cancer research
For the second time, a team of sporty Marel colleagues will be taking on this challenge. These keen cyclists and runners have been very busy raising sponsorship funds over the last few months. The activities they have organized include an auction, sponsored runs, sponsorship dinner, cake baking and selling towels and key chains. They have been training together and supporting each other in times of injury. The Marel team, BIG Challenge 24 Marel, will be climbing on their bikes and putting on their running shoes on 6 June, each with their own personal goal and all with the shared goal of raising as much money as they can for the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF) / Alpe d'HuZes fund.
The Alpe d’HuZes Marel team is one of the ways in which Marel employees contribute to the well-being of others and to the world at large. Later this year, there will also be the worldwide Tour de Marel event that aims to raise money for a global charity. In addition, there are numerous smaller local events in which Marel teams take part. As a socially responsible company, Marel greatly values these initiatives taken by employees.
For 6 June we would like to wish the Marel team all the success in the world as they tackle the Alpe d’Huez!
