In many markets, high-quality edible giblets for human consumption and for use in the pet food industry make an important contribution to a processor’s bottom line. No wonder, then, that more of them are opting for the Stork Nuova evisceration system.
Within the German Wiesenhof Group, five competitive eviscerating systems have been successfully replaced by Stork Nuova evisceration systems. These systems are spread over three processing plants and concern high-capacity systems which automatically harvest and process the different valuable byproducts: hearts, gizzards and livers.
By installing Stork Nuova, Wiesenhof has taken yet another step towards the highest possible levels of efficiency, product quality and food safety.
Better end products, higher yield
For Wiesenhof the objective was clear; a further improvement in edible giblet yields and quality. After comparing different systems, the decision was made to put a Stork Nuova evisceration system into a high-capacity processing line. It quickly became apparent that the system was more than living up to the promises made. The quality of the different end products was better and yields were considerably higher. Wiesenhof then decided to convert five evisceration lines in Germany to Stork Nuova.

Wiesenhof is one of Europe’s biggest players in the poultry processing industry. The group has sixty sites across the whole of Europe, including eleven processing plants in Germany. The Wiesenhof group produces a multiplicity of fresh and deep-frozen poultry products. It also produces a wide variety of further processed products including marinated, pre-cooked and/or coated products, as well as a range of sausage and ham items. The products find their way to consumers both in Germany and abroad via retail organizations, wholesalers, food services, restaurants and institutional kitchens.
The PHW Group and the poultry producer Wiesenhof
Wiesenhof is part of the PHW Group with its head office in the Lower Saxon town of Visbek-Rechterfeld. The poultry brand employs approximately 5,500 people and has a turnover of some EUR 2.4 billion (2011-2012). The concern supplies the food retail trade in Germany, to which should be added products specially tailored to the catering and gastronomy industries. Exports account for some 25%.
The company has eleven poultry processing plants in Germany. German origin, product grown and processed at home, is important to Wiesenhof. The concern operates a vertically-integrated production system. In line with the slogan “Everything in one pair of hands” all steps in the production process are located entirely in Germany under the centralized control of Wiesenhof management. These include parent stock flocks, hatcheries, feed mills, processing plants and logistics.
The result is that special, assured Wiesenhof quality, which the consumer can trust at all times. Wiesenhof pays particular attention to “sustainability”. Besides determining the CO2 footprint for broilers, turkeys and ducks, the use of green electricity, installation of solar power systems at many farms and the certification of an energy management system at all German production sites, Wiesenhof has developed, together with Witten University, a certification system for sustainable management. Logically, the systems resource-friendly consumption of water and energy was of great importance in the decision to opt for Nuova technology.
